Intern Diaries: Weeks 2-4

From the desk of Caleigh O,

I am officially 4 weeks through with my internship at Hype, and they have flown by! Each week, I am getting more comfortable with the work I am doing. During Week 2, I wrapped up schedule confirmations for Brand Ambassadors doing the Michelob Ultra activation at the FIFA Club World Cup. This was my first real taste of responsibility with a program, and I am continuing to learn about it as it unfolds in real-time through weekly calls that I get to sit in on. I’m gaining some valuable practice in my organization skills as I have kept track of and managed dates for almost 80 BAs across 10 cities for this activation alone.

Speaking of getting practice, I have been doing a lot of interviewing over the phone through Weeks 3 and 4 for activations with both Olipop and the MLB Players’ House. I was also able to help out with last-minute interviews to staff 9 additional BAs for a separate event the day before it happened!

Interviewing for these events has been, and will continue to be, a great opportunity for me to sharpen my communication skills and navigate how to connect with people remotely. I have gathered that the most important thing to come out of these conversations is accurately assessing their energy and enthusiasm, an intangible that is ultimately the deciding factor when we are choosing which BAs to work the event. Yes, experience matters, but their attitude is the real make-or-break.

Aside from making gains in organization and interviewing, I have really enjoyed getting to know the programs that I am involved in on a deeper level. I am grateful to play even such a small role in these activations so far, and I know that my contributions (no matter how behind the scenes) are still helping everything come together in the end. I feel so lucky to have a front row seat this summer to observe the teamwork and detailed planning that goes into these events from such a passionate, hard-working group of women! I can’t wait to see how the activations play out when they start up in a few weeks – but for now, it’s back to learning and mastering these skills for the foreseeable future.
