See it to Believe it – The Power of Video in Experiential Events

You don’t have to live at Hogwarts to experience moving pictures. We see them in our day-to-day lives and we call them “videos.” They come in many forms: teaser, live stream and recap. And from start to finish, videos are a great supplement to any event!

To create initial interest in an upcoming activation, teasers do just what the name suggests – tease consumers with a sneak peek at what’s to come. These sneak peeks can include footage of the locations where activations will be taking place, enticing locals in that market to stay tuned or encouraging consumers from afar to travel to the destination. Sneak peeks at new products that will be displayed or sampled are also great attention grabbers. Today’s consumers love to stay ahead of the curve, and catching a glimpse at the latest and greatest helps them do just that! Another fun spin on teasers is to create a montage of clips from previous activations or tours. This allows you to show consumers what they can expect to see again and what will be a new addition to the program.

Once you’ve caught their attention, it’s time to go live! With most social platforms offering a live video feature, it’s easier than ever to not only spread the word about and event but also send updates to consumers in real time. Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are all great resources to post play-by-play videos of the activation as its taking place. Anyone who follows you on these networks will have the opportunity to see these clips, which offers a chance at greater event attendance and increased social media sharing! (Don’t forget to hashtag!)

After all is said and done, it’s time to put together a recap. Not the kind that outlines metrics, but the kind that consumers can watch and reminisce over. An event video recap does one of many things:

  • First, it’s a great way to show off all of the highlights of the program. Was it a success? Did people have a blast? Flaunt it!
  • Second, it’s a great opportunity to feature interviews and feedback from the field. This helps consumers see real reactions to the activation and the product, and creates personal connections to your brand.
  • Finally, a video recap is a great tool for foreshadowing. Similar to a teaser, recaps with footage from events gone by help plant a seed for future activations and generate excitement among your target demographics.

Although it’s unlikely that an owl will deliver your letter to Hogwarts anytime soon, here at The Hype! Agency we can make all of your dreams of moving pictures come true!
